We are back open fully from Saturday in the next 2 weeks the only day we will be closed is Christmas Day. Santa is visiting this Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1.30. The kids can be entertained making Christmas Decorations and enjoying all our sweet treats including mince pies, ginger bread hot chocolate and much more. This Sunday will see a beautiful rare breed Turkey on the carvery along with our own rare breed pork. Bank Holiday Weekend

We will have lots going on this weekend, pedal go-cart track, nature trail and of course you can see the donkeys, pigs, hens and goats. On bank holiday Monday we will also have the birds of prey here again. They will be here all day culminating in a display at 2pm you will be able to get up close and personal to the birds and maybe even fly one. This is a great free treat for all the family!!

On Sunday we arrived to find our newest arrival at GOTR a new baby boy kidd. We were a little surprised but not totally unexpected. He is doing very well and is not yet big enough to chase the other goats on to the roof!

There is always lots to do with us while the kids are on holiday. We have a large grassy area outdoor climbing frame and indoor games for the kids. The kids will also be able to decorate their own easter egg and we will hold a Easter Egg hunt over the bank holiday weekend.

We will be open all week this half term. The goats are getting used to the roof once again and have been charging up and down all week. The weather is not looking too great but we have some indoor games to keep the kids entertained and of course all of the usual yummy cakes, daily specials and freshly ground coffee. VALENTINE'S WEEKEND

Love is in the air this weekend and to celebrate we will have a special menu which has Valentine's Day in mind. On Sunday come and enjoy our carvery where we will be serving delicious Fontburn roast lamb or belted Galloway beef followed by luxury Belgian chocolate torte, apple crumble or a heart shaped vanilla bean panacotta served with strawberries and belgian chocolate sauce.

We will also have our new range of cupcakes and usual shortbread, flapjacks and biscuits available. The weather may not be great at the moment but we can guarantee a warm welcome with great food and the best view from any coffee shop in the North East. Be sure to book.

All Go at Goats on the Roof!

It's been all go at Goats on the Roof this Bank Holiday Monday! We've had a fantastic number of really lovely people come to see us so we thought us goats would hop on the roof for a bit of a run around. Everybody was having a great time looking at the pigs and hens who were lounging in the sunshine as happy as can be and the playground was been used by those of all ages which did make me smile!

The hens are currently mid-summer-mault and so their pens are currently covered in feathers of all shades and colours-very beautiful.

We are all very excited for the roses that Sue has just ordered for Goats on the Roof Coffee Shop! It won't be long before the building is completely covered with bright and lovely smelling roses and the bees and butterflies start coming to visit.

Just to let you all know, we have begun selling our own free range rare breed meet at Goats on the Roof so come along and have a look. It's absolutely delicious!

Three Cheers to the Team at Goats on the Roof Coffee Shop!

Today has been one of the busiest days yet at Goats on the Roof Coffee Shop! The whole team were fantastic at coping with the hectic and eventful day, managing to serve a birthday party of vegetarians with gorgeous, fresh and fantastic quality food very quickly considering the number of people already seated. Christine, Tom, Rachel, Sarah and Felicity have all been such great ambassadors of Goats on the Roof so a great big thank you to all of them for their incredibly hard work!

As well as todays lovely team working their socks off, Nina, Darren, Sue and Simon have also been hard at it figuring out ways by which we can make Goats on the Roof Coffee Shop as eco friendly as possible. Having been in touch with many local gardening companies, they think they have come to a decision about how best to plant up the outside of the Coffee Shop making it as bee and butterfly friendly as possible. As well as that they are currently looking into expanding the farm's woodland so that visitors to the centre might be able to go for woodland walks before settling down for a nice warming cup of coco. Not only this but more woodland would allow Santa Claus to come to visit at Christmas with his reindeer to meet all the lovely children who come to visit!

I simply can't wait to meet him!

Well it has been pretty windy and rainy up here on the roof, we are not so keen on stormy conditions but it looks like the sun is begining to shine so we will be back up on that roof tomorrow. What Rolls Royce Publicity!

It started with Look North and a few local radio stations, then the wave of media swept us up and threw us the biggest rope we could ever have wished for! Having now been featured in The Northumbrian and a number of Scottish newspapers as well as on Real Radio Newcastle and many more it is as if we have been tugged by a strong supportive hand to an ocean of success. It's been so busy! Us goats have been knocked over by how many people have come to visit us! All sorts of people all enjoying the coffee made from our fantastic baristas as well as delicious cakes and sandwiches made by our lovely chef Christine.

The storms that have graced us with their presence have not at all dimmed the light hearted atmosphere in the coffee shop. In fact, watching the rolling storms across the reservoir from behind the huge strong windows has resulted in our customers feeling both excited and cosy warm. I just can't wait till the winter now! Can you imagine the snow? Stunning!

Lets hope the success keeps strong! Thank you to everybody who has been so supportive to us!

Well it has been so busy these last few days I don't know where to start! We had our television debut on Look North very exciting, and Nina and Darren have been on the radio all over the place, not to mention the pictures in the journal. And things in the coffee shop have been going well. A few teething problems but we have had some lovely customers who have been really patient with all the staff, we really hope they come back with more friends and family. Well we opened our doors for the first time yesterday and there seemed to be a few hiccups but gernerally coffee was flowing and lots of brownies being eaten. We had a good run around on the roof and the customers down stairs could hear us trip traping up above. Looking forward to the next week and more customers

THE GOATS ARE GOING ON THE ROOF!

Today we're going on the roof. Currently we are in our pen sniffing around the ladder and checking it all out. The roof is looking great as is the lovely grass we have to live on. It's all very exciting and a little daunting because, having been looking forward to this for so long, finally being able to climb up onto the roof is a rather big deal! The ark we'll be sleeping in is equally lovely! It’s very comfortable in my opinion and full of hay and straw. It's a good job the pen is made of grass because it's one of the few things we goats don't eat so it should (hopefully) stay lush and green!

The feral cats are a funny pair I must say! One of them (the male one) has decided that, despite being from a feral colony and living in the wild for his whole life, he would prefer to use Sue and Simon's cat flap and eat their cat's food! I'm not sure how he knew how to use a cat flap or why he prefers cat food to mice but hey, what can you do about it!

Remember we open on Saturday 31st of July! So come along and meet all of us at the farm!

The signs have arrived!

At last the fantastic big signs have arrived! They are currently sitting in Nina and Darren's kitchen looking great! Big, shiny and with a picture of me on, they are going to wow you all when you come to visit!

Not only have the signs arrived but so have the T-shirts, YAY! It is all starting to feel much more real, like we are actually going to open next week which is both scary and exciting at the same time. I just can't wait to finally meet you all!

By the way...I thought I'd let you in on a secret, you know, because we're friends now... that the very first customer of Goats on the Roof will be given a latte and cake of their choice on the house for the next time they visit. Well, I couldn't let that offer go by without letting you know! So if I were you I'd come to Goats on the Roof on the 31st at 9am because if it were up to me, YOU would be the one getting the free latte and cake!

Looking for a supplier of chai tea, anybody got any ideas?

One week to go!

It's not long now! Next Monday and I'll be up on that roof having the time of my life! How utterly fantastic!

There have been some problems getting a fridge which is a shame. They are just so expensive and unfortunately the companies who want to supply us with one for free are unable to do so at the moment. We have decided, as a result, to display the drinks in the fridge behind the counter for the moment and to get an actual display fridge later on this year which I think is a jolly good idea!

In a few days the adventure play ground from Climb and Slide goes in! I simply can't wait to have a go! Not only that but the turf for our Goats Pen is arriving tomorrow which hopefully means we will be up near the coffee shop even sooner. As much as I do like the warmth of the barn and the straw that we can munch, I really do love the idea of being able to run in the grass and the meadow to meet all of you!

Hello there!

We are now on Big Barn the online farmers market! Go and check us out!

I simply can't believe it! I'm going to be on the roof next Monday, it is SO exciting! The chickens are arriving soon too which is great because it means plenty of lovely eggs for us to eat and plenty of lovely chickens for us to admire. As you know all the animals linked to Goats on the Roof are rare breed and free range so the Marsh Daisy hens will be a fantastic addition to the team.

Hopefully we'll be getting some rare breed cows as well which will be fantastic and which I'm sure will bring even more people to see the farm!

The menu was written today and includes beef burgers with local cheese, Craster crab sandwiches, goat’s cheese and red pepper salad as well as homemade cakes made fresh every day! It sounds simply delicious and I can't wait to try it all.

More team members have arrived!

The Feral Cats have arrived! Our lovely miceing friends are a fantastic addition to the team! A little bit scary but brilliant all the same.

Nina and Christine are, as we speak, deciding upon the menu that will be on offer once the coffee shop is open. It sounds very yummy and includes all our own free range meat, local vegetables, handmade chocolates and other produce from nearby.

Nina and Simon went to check out the handmade chocolates and fudge yesterday which I must say tasted delicious! There are going to be "Cow Pat" chocolates and "Goat Droppings" too which will be great for funny little gifts for younger family members.

The Artists are getting ready with their photographs, paintings and carvings. Their work will be on sale once we open and in the mean time will be displayed looking beautiful for everybody to see. We have some fantastic artists lined up including Will Nicholls who was Young Wildlife Photographer of the year. Fancy visiting his website? It's on our Friends of Fontburn links list.

On the hunt for a chocolate supplier...

Does anybody know of a chocolate supplier in Northumberland? I have heard news that Nina and Naomi are searching high and low for one with very little success. What I've always said is that a coffee shop without chocolate isn't a proper one so any help you can give us would be much appreciated!

We received 15000 flyers today which, tomorrow, are being dropped all around Northumberland. It's very exciting because I'm on the front of them all! Hopefully this will bring more people into the Fontburn Family of Friends which is always nice!

More exciting news is that we are having requests for birthday parties. I hear we are going to have balloons and sausage rolls and sandwiches and lemonade and all sorts of other party-like things! Because of the fantastic space we have in the coffee shop we can also play lots of party games like pass the parcel. I can't wait to meet all the lovely boys and girls and their parents! Wow it's busy!

The rain has been incredible! It has poured and poured and poured! Although we have desperately needed some wet weather to stop the ground drying up, it came just as the floor is being laid in the cafe which is rather inconvenient.

All the safety signs came today as well which is good because it means that we can start putting them up as soon as the floor has been laid properly. Despite some problems with the counter it looks like that is now ready to go in too, along with the fancy new coffee machine for the fabulous coffee that all our waiting staff are going to be making!

A few problems in the office so I've heard today what with the printer breaking etc but as far as I know it's all back on track and Nina and Naomi are doing their very best to work around the obstacles that today has presented.

Looking forward to another evening snuggled up in the barn with the rain pattering outside!

The coffee shop is growing!

A big hi, hey and hello from all of us at the farm! What a foggy day it's been today and the rain last night was tremendous! Never fear though, the building is continuing to grow with the floor going in as we speak. The roof is greener than ever and it won’t be long until we are actually on the roof.

The lovely Barbara has been getting us in touch with plenty of newspapers and radio stations so watch out for me, I might be on your TV screens very soon!!

On the subject of staff we have FINALLY got ourselves a chef. She is absolutely wonderful and we are very excited to be working with her along with all the other staff we are hiring.

The Scaffolding is finally down! Hurray! How fantastic it is to be able to see our beautiful new home properly! Now that the roof is green with grass, it's blending nicely into the surrounding area so it just looks like an extended piece of hill! Me and all my friends are incredibly excited about the whole venture and cannot wait to move in. It all looks so yummy!

I hear the pond is going to be cleaned soon too which means that Mr and Mrs Puddle Duck will be able to swim to their hearts content! The Pig arks will be moved up there too so I'll have plenty of animals to talk to once we're up there! To tell you the truth though, I'm MOST excited about meeting YOU! I can tell we're going to be just the bestest of friends :o)

FANTASTIC interviews today! Plenty of lovely people who are extremely passionate about keeping us animals as happy as they can. WONDERFULL! Each and every one made brilliant cup cakes which are sure to be star sellers once the coffee shop opens (not long now-AUGUST).

Durham Hen's are selling us hen houses for where the lovely Marsh Daisy Hens will be living. I simply can't wait to meet them because I'll be able to talk to them from my roof! I'm told the houses are great quality and they are a lovely business! Fancy looking them up? The link's on my Friends of Fontburn list.

Hello Everyone!

Well, where to begin? There has been SO much going on at the farm! Darren's spent the day with us animals, Nina's been up and down to the coffee shop to make sure everything is going smoothly and Naomi's been calling up all sorts of interesting people to organise the launch of our new home!

I, on the other hand, have been lounging in the barn enjoying the sun and watching as the roof is being planted! It's still looking a bit brown but it won't be long until it's as green as can be. I must say I'm very excited for the opening; I just can't wait to be up on the roof munching away at the lovely lush grass!
